Communion of Reparation

A Holy Communion received specifically with the intention of making reparation for sins against the Sacred Heart.

Why this practice

Any Holy Communion may be offered with a particular intention. The Communion of Reparation is one received with the explicit intention of consoling the Heart of Jesus for the offenses He receives — sacrilege, indifference, blasphemy, the abuses of the Sacrament itself.

First Fridays are the classical day for this, and the Five First Saturdays (revealed at Fatima, joining reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary with reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus) extend the practice.

How to begin

1On First Fridays — and ideally also First Saturdays — receive Holy Communion with the explicit intention of reparation.
2At the moment of receiving, name in your heart what sins you wish to make reparation for (whether your own, those of someone you love, or those of the world).
3Spend the thanksgiving consoling His Heart, rather than asking for anything.
4If you keep First Saturdays as well, follow the full Fatima form: Confession within eight days, Communion, five decades of the Rosary, and fifteen minutes' meditation.

Reparation through Communion is the deepest possible — for it brings to the wounded Heart the very Heart itself, given as remedy.

A prayer for this practice

Sacred Heart of Jesus, in this Holy Communion I receive Thee — and I offer Thee back to the Father in reparation for all the sins committed against Thy Heart. Console Thy own Heart through Thy own gift.

Amen.
