Promoting the devotion

Christ promised: "Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced."

Why this practice

Among the twelve promises is one for those who spread the devotion. "Their names shall be written in My Heart, never to be effaced." The promise presumes that the devotion to the Sacred Heart, by its nature, is meant to spread.

Promotion takes many forms. Giving books. Sharing the Sacred Heart image. Mentioning a practice when it comes up naturally. Funding the printing of materials. Building a website. None of these is small.

How to begin

1Choose one or two ways you can promote the devotion realistically.
2Give Croiset's book (or another good Sacred Heart text) to one person per year — as a gift, not a duty laid on them.
3Speak about the practices with friends and family when they ask, but never push. The Heart attracts; it does not coerce.
4Support the work of others who are promoting the devotion — a parish, a publisher, a religious community, an apostolate.

Those who promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced.

— Promise XI, to St. Margaret Mary

A prayer for this practice

Sacred Heart of Jesus, make me a quiet apostle of Thy love. Where Thou givest me the chance to draw someone toward Thee, give me the courage and the wisdom and the gentleness to do it well.

Amen.
